Default Earthquake Survival

Has anyone ever taken an "earthquake survival course"? Living on the West Coast, and in CA where earthquakes are pretty common I'm starting to get worried about the "BIG ONE".

Other than making sure you are not going to get crushed what else is important to remember during an Earthquake? For that matter what else is there to know about earthquake danger in general... before and after.

I heard a smart idea. most houses have gas and it needs to be shut off after a quake. Anyway get a cresent wrench and tie it to the gas main at your house. This way you will have the tool that you need to turn it off. In the house, i would make sure large picture frames and hanging stuff on walls is secured, water heaters have proper tie downs. ALso make sure your supplies are in a place that isnt going to get crushed.

That's true about the gas.

Most fires are from natural gas lines rupturing and fueling the blaze for hours until it's turned off further up the road.

I guess it's also important to make sure your fuel storage (if you have some) is not near osmething that could crush it and ignite it!!

Lots to think about when you think about items falling on everything!!

This is my biggest fear where I live right now. I figure we will have slides from the hill by my house and the irrigation ditch above me will rupture and lots of water will flood the area I am in. Keep the gear out of the basement.
