Default Ruger 10/22 Ultimate Survival / OutDoor Rifle?

So I LOVE my Ruger 10/22... light weight, accurate, easily carried/stored, etc.

It can be used to take down game the size as rodents up to small dear with a nicely placed shot .

I think the 10/22 is my 'ultimate survival' rifle... if I had to live in the hills and had to get my own food I think the 10/22 would be at the top of my list. I am saying the best 'every day' rifle that could be used in the most situations. I'd probably also want a 30-06 for hunting big-game if I was going to need to do that.

What do you guys think is your favorite 'survival' rifle that has the most every day use?

I forgot .22 LR are super light and you can carry a LOT if you need to too

I agree. I have two 10/22's. I want to re-stock one with either a collapsing stock or a bull-pup so that I may easily stow it in (or on) my pack. The only thing it lacks is power, but hey, it's hard to have everything for that price. And the 30-06, if one had to choose just a single all-round rifle for game up to and including deer and black bear, that would be a wise choice. It's a versatile round widly available in many loadings.
Kel-Tec is making .223 cal rifles / carbines that have folding stocks ( takes a 37 1/2" rifle to 25" ) that take standard AR-15 mags. They are light weight, offer more power than the .22 LR. It's the SU-16, the forestock also folds out into a usable bipod, it holds 2 extra mags in the butstock (polymer stock, does not fire in the folded position). All in all it's a cool looking and functional piece. I think the SU-16 might be my "next" survival rifle.

Funny you mention the Kel-Tec I was looking into that rifle a while ago. They make a special version for us here in CA, but even then it seems like a nice backpacker/4x4 rifle... easy to take around with you and extra ammunition.

Can't go wrong with the 10/22 in almost every department (power). It would work great for survival and food but not so much bear protection
