Ok so I received an NRA survival kit today. These things are pretty damn nice. They include a Blastmatch Fire starter, 2 Wetfire tinder cubes, a ridiculously loud whistle and a signal mirror. All this is inside of a sturdy Pelican type waterproof case. Here is a generic pic from a website
I wanted to review today on the blastmatch, but I'm lazy and its snowing so probably tomorrow I'll get on it and have a review it shortly.
The whistle: Yes its loud. The sound is a little different from a normal whistle, but it makes it distinct for sure. This would be a lifesaver if you were lost as yelling can slowly dehydrate you and also make you lose your voice.
The Signal Mirror: Its pretty useless on a day like today since there is no sunlight. The design is very practical with a hole in the middle so you can look through it toward the object that you are trying to signal. When its sunny I am going to try it out. I'm also going to try and use it to start a fire.
The Case: Its beefy and still pretty lightweight. The only thing this kit is lacking is a small LED light, but hey thats what fire is for isn't it. I'm going to put a light in the case just in case i need to start a fire at night so then I can actually see.
So far the kit looks to be pretty complete. I believe this kit was on NRA's website for the low price of 10 bucks which is a steal because a Blastmatch itself is 20 bucks. The cases I found online for 13.99. SO far I'm pretty satisfied with the quality and the usefulness of this kit
Oh yeah I'll get some pics of the kit also when I post the review of the Blastmatch.
