Today I made an attempt at climbing Mount Shasta. Unfortunately, the conditions were less than ideal. The weeks warm temps melted a ton of snow pack and made for a slushy hike in. On top of that we were unsure of the spring was running or not so we were forced to pack in water as well.
After a hard hike in we set up camp and hung out. We were able to tour the Sierra Club cabin which was pretty cool. After that we also found out that the spring was running so packing in the water was pretty much pointless. After eating dinner we were able to sleep for a few hours.
At 1 am we were woke up and got packed up and took off. we hiked for about an hour and I was just starting to fell good when I discovered I had a blister that was starting to rip open on my heel. After talking over our plan we decided that my heels were not going to let me climb any more and there were some ominous looking clouds starting to form over the red banks. This turned out to be a very good thing that we turned around. We knew there was a possibility of a storm front rolling in and we didn't want to be on the mountain in that kind of weather. So we headed back to camp.
After catching some ZZZ's we packed up camp and headed out. After getting back to the parking lot we packed up the car and left. My moms boyfriend stayed at the parking for for a bit to rest and about an hour later we got a call from him saying the wind was blowing and rocking his F350 diesel around and it was raining pretty good. The blisters were a blessing in disguise. Anyway here are some pics.
