This kit is labeled as assembled in the USA which is understandable but many of the contents are made in China. Another interesting note is “Contents May Vary”. Since the contents may vary I would open up your kit and make sure you have every item and every item listed is exactly as described. I googled this product and have seen different tins, matches, match storage, and other items that make a difference.
Here are some pictures of the tin closed and open and more details regarding the products found inside.

What I saw when I first opened this tin minus the survival instructions being moved by me to show the contents of the survival tin.

Here is the Combat Survival Tin opened and organized on my table.

The survival instructions on waterproof paper are very well written, easy to read and get to the point. The paper they on feels like it’s either coated or made of something other than wood. The survival paper (front and back 8.5″x11″) goes over many important topics that will help anyone in a survival situation.
- Medical Priorities during a survival situation
- Location & Survival Shelter
- Shelter Location & Construction (only if you have to)
- Building Materials
- Tree-Lined areas, turf shelters, artic shelters, and more.
- How to create a flame/fire and what to use as fuel.
- How to procure water (most important thing is to stay hydrated and stay calm)
- How to filter, distill and sterilize water.
- How to get food during a survival situation
- How to navigate
- How to signal
- How to travel
- On the back half they alsohave suggested books/readings and a accident evaluation report to fill out (with provided pencil)
The paper does not go into great detail but touches on a bunch of subjects that are very important in a survival situation.

The survival tin by Pro Force comes with two methods to achieve safe drinkable water. The first is by placing dirty water in the tin and then using either the matches or the fire stick to create spark/flame and ignite a fire, and then use the tin to boil the water. The second method to get safe water from dirty water is to use the aqua tabs provided.

The wire saw that comes in the survival tin is actually one of better quality and can double as a snare. The ends that you hold on to are not simple electrical connectors but real quality metal pieces that actually swivel and will not rip off on the first usage of the saw. The wire saw is in the kit to be used to create a shelter, snare an animal, carry gear with the ‘key chain end’, you could even use it to cut ice blocks if the conditions were perfect and you had access to ice ledges.

The kit also has a very nice fishing package which consists of:
- 4 large/slider weights
- 3 medium sized complete swivels
- 1 large complete swivel
- 4 hooks (all the same size)
- approx. 20ft of fishing line
If there is water this will probably more than double or triple your odds of catching a fish than without these items. If you are without water to fish in these items can be used for other things such as shelter building or projectiles and the hooks can be used to trap other items when used in conjunction with the saw.

My kit came with 6 large safety pins, two small safety pins, two buttons, two different types of thread and colors, as well as two sewing needles. These items will greatly increase your odds of staying warm with tattered or ripped clothes. Safety pins can be used to seal up drafts in your clothes or keep your pants from falling off, used as fishing hooks, or used to keep your shelter together. The whistle the kit came with the kit is rather large, and requires a good deal of air to get a very loud sound, it’s nice to have and would get the job done but there are smaller louder ones on the market. The compass provided has no bubbles, a nice clip to easily attach to your pant or jacket pocket and an adjustable outer dial.
The fire starting kit in this survival tin is very nice, you can tell whoever designed this put emphasis on the fire starting. The kit includes 12 NATO life boat matches. These matches burn extremely hot, are water proof, wind proof, and will even light in the rain. The Ferrocium Rod is a nice addition to the matches as it will last much longer and provides either a backup or primary source of fire starting (depending on how you think). Additionally you are provided a small candle either for light or to aid in the lighting of a fire.
The knife pictured above is a chinese copy of the army swiss and would not cut it (ha ha) for any serious survival work. I would hope this knife would be a backup to your primary carry knife.
My overall opinion of this survival tin by Pro Force is that it’s a great item for the money. Sure there are things that can be improved on (the knife and whistle) but overall the items it came with were quality, the instructions were great to have, and the tin provides many usages over a say a plastic bottle. This kit would be a good purchase as a starting point for making your own survival kit as it comes with many items already and you could save money instead of having to piece together a kit separately.
